Presents for me, presents for you!

I got a few lovely gifts for Christmas this year! My parents bought me some items to use in my room makeover (the previous occupant was a 5 year old girl, so there are butterfly stickers on the wall that need to be covered!), however, I will show you them when the transformation is complete! I also got a shiny red teapot and some gourmet teas to try from my siblings, and a few cookbooks (which I have already utilized to make a delicious key lime pie).

My favourite present, however, was from my sweetheart - he got me a ukulele!

I can't wait to learn how to play it - I used to play piano as a child so I am not used to having to tune my own instruments, which is proving to be the biggest challenge so far. However, I know there is a group of uke players at my university, so it's also a good incentive for me to be more social in 2011.

The giant and myself on Christmas Day - I do wish I could wear some of the lovely, rich holiday dresses I see gals in the northern hemisphere sporting... it's just too hot here for velvet and satin at christmastime!

Now, as for the presents for you - I'm hosting my first proper giveaway! One lucky reader will be drawn at random to win a copy of two of my favourite 'modern' classic novels: Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Big Sleep.

How To Enter: Just leave a comment on this post telling me about your favourite classic book, and why you love it! You can also earn bonus entries by blogging about this giveaway (just let me know in a separate comment!) Open to international followers too! You must be a follower to enter this giveaway. Closes on Wednesday the 26th of January.

Good luck!

First in, best dressed. Give them to me. Well no, don't I have half of them already. Dang.

Your Christmas dress is so pretty! My husband plays ukelele, he's pretty serious about it and his sounds beautiful. Have you heard of Roscoe (Boscoe?) and Honey? They're a uke team on youtube and etc, I think they're from up north somewhere.

Oh wow I would love to win Breakfast at Tiffany's!

My favourite classic - that's a tricky one! I'm very partial to Agatha Christie - especially Poirot!

AND The Hound of the Baskervilles is wonderful as well as Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.

Oh and I loooved To Kill a Mockingbird.

Your boyfriend is very tall indeed - My Mr is 6'4" - a whole foot taller than me!

Well gee, that ukulele is great. Love that it looks like a pineapple. You of course look fabulous and I can't wait to see the results of your room makeover.

Very excited about this give away- books, I love books!
Choosing a classic is difficult, at the moment I am inclined to say The Great Gatsby is my favorite, it's one of those novels where the emotional content and imagery make a real impression on the reader.

It's so hard to pick just one. I've been a reader forever, and I have so many favourite books.

However, I think the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery and Little Women by Lousia May Alcott are my favourite classics.

What a great givaway! Thanks!

One of my favorites is I Capture the Castle. It is a fun and easy read that reminds me of those awkward transitional years from teenager to adult.

I also love The Great Gatsby. It is just a fun to read, emotional story that really captivates the reader captivated with the glamorous lifestyle and the tragedy.

My favourite would have to be 'Rebecca' by Daphne Du Maurier. I love the Hitchock film, but the book is wonderful in its own right. This spring I'm planning a trip to Cornwall to see all the moody foreboding coastline that inspired the author, and a trip to one of Agatha Christie's homes too!

I haven't read either of the giveaway books, so I would love to win!

aww very sweet!!! Love your crown too.
Gone with the Wind is my favourite classic book because not only is there a lot of love and drama, but there is historical backbone and bravery and intensity throughout it. I am really into stories that have a lot to do with real life events.

happy new year! That ukulele is darling (like a playable pineapple!). My favourite classic book might just be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte!

oops, forgot to say why I love it. Being narrated in autobiographical style and being a bildungsroman (character development novel), I love how engrossed in the character Jane one becomes. There's also fantastic use of setting (like the Gothic red room), and other elements of gothic and sensational fiction (the madwoman in the attic). Love it!

Love your pineapple-ukelele. Now if only the neck and pegs were green...

Great giveaway, and amazingly i don't have either of them.

My favourite classic (although of course it is very hard to narrow it down to just one) would have to be Pride & Prejudice. The language, the wit & humour, the fantastic characters, the plot twists & the happy ending - even when you've read it several times, and seen the BBC version a bazillion times. Oh yes and fact that it's such a wonderful book that the BBC version was made, giving us all a chance to revel in the wet shirt scene!

Lovely post! That ukelele is gorgeous! Even if you didn't play it, it would be a lovely display piece for a Hawaiian themed-tiki lounge! Your dress is lovely too! It has been cold here on the East Coast of the US! They are calling for snow today but so far, nothing yet. My favorite classic is probably "The Great Gatsby."
